BRUM ACTIVIST CAUGHT ON CAMERA

Ansar Ali Khan pictured with Labour's failed West Mids mayoral candidate Liam Byrne

Sinister video doorbells manufactured by Amazon (who else?) are becoming more and more commonplace in the UK and one such device has caught out a Labour leafleter in Birmingham.  The sharp-dressed party activist was captured chatting to a comrade on a doorstep in Erdington and could be heard describing the constituency as 'shit'.  Click below for the video.

Earlier this year a Labour councillor in Nottinghamshire was filmed pilfering a Tory leaflet by one of these camera doorbells.  The man in the Birmingham video is reportedly Ansar Ali Khan, a former councillor and deputy leader of Birmingham City Council.  The MP for whom Khan was leafleting expressed dismay in a statement put out on his website.  Jack Dromey makes no reference to Khan by name and merely describes the individual concerned as a 'volunteer'.
"Like many Erdington residents, I find these comments outrageous and deeply offensive.  I have made my views clear to the volunteer and expressed my digust at what was said.  I strongly disassociate myself from these remarks.  I am proud to have served as the Member of Parliament for Erdington since 2010 and these comments in no way reflect my views of the fantastic and vibrant community we have here.  I have been informed the matter is being referred to the West Midlands Labour Party for them to investigate and take action.  I have also demanded the volunteer apologise to the people of Erdington".

Jack Dromey, Labour MP for Birmingham Erdington
At the time of writing there has not been any statement from Khan, let alone an apology.  There is also a question mark over Dromey's assertion that he is an 'Erdington resident'.  He provided a redacted address in the constituency for his nomination at the 2019 general election, but we have to remember that his wife - Harriet Harman - is a London MP.  She provided a London address in the same general election, so where exactly is the marital home?

NEXT SPEAKER RUNNERS & RIDERS

There are nine candidates in the running to replace the Poison Dwarf as Speaker, five Labour and four Conservative.  The election will take place on November 4th by secret ballot.  The winner must obtain an absolute majority of more than 50%, with the lowest placed candidates dropping out after each round until there is a winner.  Here's a rundown of all the candidates, including the latest betting odds.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle (Labour, Chorley since 1997).  Age 62, originally from Lancashire.  One of the three incumbent deputy speakers, a role he has held since 2010.  He abstains on all Brexit votes and does not have a public stance.  Odds:  4/6 (Ladbrokes, William Hill), 8/13 (Betfred)

Harriet Harman (Labour, Camberwell & Peckham since 1982).  Age 69, from London.  Longest serving female MP in the Commons and a vocal Remainer who has voted in favour of revoking Article 50 (despite voting to trigger it in 2017).  Odds:  5/2 (Betfred), 9/4 (William Hill), 11/4 (Ladbrokes)

Chris Bryant (Labour, Rhondda since 2001).  Age 57, from Cardiff.  Nicknamed 'Captain Underpants' after his exploits on a gay website, Bryant has been eyeing up the Speaker's role for a while.  An ardent Remainer, he has consistently voted to block Brexit at every opportunity, despite his constituency's 60% Leave vote.  Odds:  6/1 (William Hill), 10/1 (Ladbrokes), 12/1 (Betfred)

Dame Eleanor Laing (Conservative, Epping Forest since 1997).  Age 61, originally from Renfrewshire.  Another deputy speaker (since 2013), she does not have a public stance on Brexit.  Odds:  10/1 (Ladbrokes), 16/1 (Betfred, William Hill)

Sir Edward Leigh (Conservative, Gainsborough since 1983).  Age 69, originally from London.  Long-standing Eurosceptic and Brexiteer, renowned for voting in line with his own principles rather than party loyalty.  A mere ten days older than Harriet Harman, making him the oldest contender.  Odds:  25/1 (Ladbrokes, Betfred), 33/1 (William Hill)

Sir Henry Bellingham (Conservative, North West Norfolk 1983-1997, 2001-present).  Age 64, originally from Gloucestershire.  Another Brexiteer, he has multiple business interests outside Parliament and is a board member of several companies.  No odds available.

Dame Rosie Winterton (Labour, Doncaster Central since 1997).  Age 61, from Doncaster.  The third and final deputy speaker (since 2017), she campaigned for Remain in 2016.  Served as a minister under Gordon Brown.  No odds available.

Meg Hillier (Labour, Hackney South & Shoreditch since 2005).  Age 50, from London.  The youngest of the candidates and an ardent Remainer who has called for Article 50 to be revoked.  No odds available.

Shailesh Vara (Conservative, North West Cambridgeshire since 2005).  Age 59, born in Uganda and raised in Buckinghamshire.  Backed Remain in 2016, but resigned from the cabinet last year in protest at Theresa May's proposed withdrawal agreement, saying it did not honour the referendum result.  No odds available.

CONTINUITY BERCOW'S OWN GOAL

Labour's Harriet Harman is pulling out all the stops in her quest to succeed the Poison Dwarf as Commons Speaker.  Her local party passed a motion last month demanding that she withdraw from the contest, arguing that the party requires every MP it can get:  "Labour will need the largest and strongest presence possible in the House of Commons to support the Labour manifesto, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and radical socialist policies".  Harman swept aside this opposition and declared on Twitter:  "I will not back down".  She followed that up with the hashtag #SpeakHer, showcasing her feminist credentials (such a feminist in fact that she's never showed an interest in the plight of the thousands of young females raped by Muslim grooming gangs across this country).

Harman's 'feminist' campaign has struck a chord with several other fake feminists in the Commons, so it will come as no surprise that she has been publicly backed by Stella Creasy and Jess Phillips, who also happen to share Harman's commitment to overturning the Leave mandate.  While Harman has stated she would be "scrupulously neutral" in the chair, no-one is buying this.  Her smug persona makes her an ideal candidate to follow Bercow's fine example of unscrupulous Remain bias, therefore acting as 'continuity Bercow'.

It is this smugness and persistent exploitation of her own gender that has led Harman to an own goal this week.  In an interview with the Telegraph yesterday she claims that a vote for her would send a "powerful message" to older women, in particular pensioners and women in their sixties.  This interview has riled a lot of people (and actual feminists) who feel that Harman is advocating herself as the 'first female speaker'.  In exploiting her age, as well as gender, Harman has doubled down on this faux pas.  Betty Boothroyd was the first female speaker and not only that, she was also a woman in her sixties when she was appointed - 62 to be precise.  As the longest serving female MP, Harman should be well acquainted with such facts.

The insufferably smug Harriet Harman

Coincidentally, it is Betty Boothroyd's 90th birthday today.  Many happy returns, and may your legacy as the only female Speaker continue beyond next month's election!

NEXT SPEAKER FRONTRUNNERS

With the odious John Bercow standing down at Halloween, here are the frontrunners to replace him.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle (Labour, Chorley since 1997).  An incumbent deputy speaker since 2010, he abstains on all Brexit votes and does not have a public stance.  Odds:  4/5 (Ladbrokes, William Hill) 8/11 (Betfred)

Harriet Harman (Labour, Camberwell & Peckham since 1982).  The longest serving female MP and a vocal Remainer who has voted in favour of revoking Article 50 (despite voting to trigger it in 2017).  Odds:  11/4 (Betfred, Ladbrokes, William Hill)

Dame Eleanor Laing (Conservative, Epping Forest since 1997).  Another deputy speaker (since 2013) and therefore does not have a public stance on Brexit.  Odds:  8/1 (Betfred, Ladbrokes), 10/1 (William Hill)

Chris Bryant (Labour, Rhondda since 2001).  Nicknamed 'Captain Underpants' after his exploits on a gay website, Bryant has been eyeing up the Speaker's role for a while.  An ardent Remainer, he has consistently voted to block Brexit at every opportunity, at odds with his constituency which returned a 60% Leave vote.  Odds:  10/1 (Betfred, William Hill), 16/1 (Ladbrokes)

Charles Walker (Conservative, Broxbourne since 2005).  The only known Brexiteer among the favourites, he came out strongly in support of Bercow during a Tory plot to remove him in 2015.  Odds:  12/1 (Betfred, William Hill), 16/1 (Ladbrokes)

REMAIN BITCHFEST

If Corbyn truly believed he could unite the Remainers of Parliament, tonight he will surely be scratching his head in disbelief.  By announcing his intention to lead a caretaker government he unleashed a war of words that looks set to rumble on well into the Parliamentary recess.  Much of the discord revolves around Jo Swinson's outright opposition to Corbyn taking the top job.  Pro-Remain Corbynistas were not not amused and unleashed their usual vitriol, not least little Owen Jones who appeared on Sky News to rattle off a list of 'crimes' carried out by the Lib Dems when they were part of the coalition.  It's no wonder the Lib Dems don't want to share power with them.  All Corbyn's loony left do is pour scorn on anyone who doesn't share their politics, then cry foul when their victims turn on them.  They have made so many enemies in the Commons that some opposition MPs are considering voting with the government rather than back Corbyn.

For her part, Swinson gave this shaky interview to Krishnan Guru-Murthy in which she threw Harriet Harman under the bus and left her at the mercy of the Corbynista keyboard warriors.  Did Harman (and Ken Clarke) really tell her they were prepared to lead a caretaker government?  Harman publicly threw herself behind Corbyn's coup this morning in a tweet.  Swinson doesn't sound too sure about what she is saying...

MOST SHARED: WEEK 189

This old meme was rolled out again as the abhorrent antics of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council were exposed once more.  Not content with aiding and abetting the Muslim rape gangs for decades, the council decided that rapists who had impregnated their victims had 'rights to access'.

Featuring one of Labour's arch feminists (the odious hypocrite Harriet Harman) this meme was shared 848 times via our Facebook page.
