McDONALD QUITS FRONT BENCH

Keir Starmer's disastrous party conference continues with the resignation of frontbencher Andy McDonald.  McDonald was the only Corbynista in Starmer's Shadow Cabinet and quit on Monday in a row about the minimum wage.  He had been the Shadow Secretary of State for Employment Rights since Starmer took over as leader.

McDonald published his resignation letter on Twitter (see below, click to enlarge).

McDonald also discussed his resignation with Oli Dugmore of JOE (click below for video).

Shadow Scotland Secretary Ian Murray has since accused his former front bench colleague of 'planned sabotage'.  At the time of writing McDonald has not been replaced, but with only two days of the conference left Keir Starmer will probably be concentrating on his big speech.

LABOUR'S MEDICINE FIGURES "NONSENSE"

Andrew Neil deftly exposed Labour's scaremongering about a post-Brexit US trade deal on Wednesday night.  Hapless frontbencher Andy McDonald was all over the place as Neil ripped into Labour's fantasy figures about medicine imports from the US.  Watch below.

Corbyn must be wondering if any of his frontbenchers are capable of giving anything other than a car crash interview at the moment, but then again it's not easy defending the indefensible.  Since the election was announced we've had disastrous appearances from Long-Bailey, Burgon, Starmer and now McDonald.  Possibly the only capable pair of hands on Corbyn's front bench has just announced he is quitting as deputy leader, so who is left?  One thing's for sure, we await the turns of Abbott and Thornberry with glee!

IAIN DALE vs OLD McDONALD

Andy McDonald, just as dumb as his Corrie namesake

"You don't want a no deal Brexit, you don't want this deal, you don't want an election - what do you want?"
(Iain Dale to Andy McDonald)

LBC's Iain Dale clashed with Labour's Andy McDonald on the airwaves today about Labour's refusal to back an election.  The Shadow Transport Secretary (yes, seriously) was moaning about a wintry election, primarily the fact that university students would be back on campus at that time and supposedly unable to vote.  Dale took exception to this and consequently triggered McDonald when he referred to people who couldn't be bothered to vote as "feckless".  McDonald proceeded to roll off a sob story about how young people are hard done by, prompting thoughts of 'poor snowflakes'.

It's fair to say McDonald is not the sharpest tool and this interview showed it.  Then again, it's not an easy position to defend when everybody (the entire nation) knows that your party is running scared of them.  The longer Labour chicken out, the more desperate these interviews will get.

Watch the full exchange below.

That look you give each other when your caller gives you a sob story about the yoof,
in sight of Armistice Day no less!
