UNCERTAIN TIMES FOR ALL PARTIES

by Richey Edwards

"Labour’s hopes of securing the sizeable majority it needs to enact a transformative agenda are uncertain".  So wrote Little Owen in his Guardian column yesterday.  True, we live in uncertain times, and just when it looked almost certain that a Labour/SNP coalition government would be our fate, Theresa May resigns and a new party arrives with a juggernaut of momentum and purpose.  Not only that, but Labour now haemorrhages voters to hard Remain parties, most notably the Lib Dems - a party almost fatally wounded not so long back, but now back with a Remain vengeance.

Of course we shouldn't read too much into the European election results (or the council elections before them) where Westminster is concerned.  Despite the most recent YouGov poll showing the Lib Dems out in front, Brexit Party second and the Brexit betrayal parties in joint third, rarely do such results transfer into a general election.  It's vital to remember that although UKIP won the 2014 European elections, the following year they won just one seat in the general election.  People tell opinion pollsters one thing in the light of the most recent headline grabbing election, but when it comes to the actual event most revert back to one of the two main parties in order to stop the other getting in.  Anyone who thinks the Brexit Party would be elected into government, or the Lib Dems for that matter, has not been paying attention to every single general election in their lifetime (and longer).  Folks, we are in a two-party system and that's not going to change overnight.

Furthermore, a Brexiteer PM could potentially stop the Brexit Party dead in its tracks.  Look what happened to UKIP after we voted to Leave the EU.  Voters deemed them irrelevant once the referendum was won and they were obliterated in the 2017 general election.  If we actually left the EU on October 31 (don't hold your breath) then Nigel Farage can retire once and for all.  Game over.

However, we have been here before.  We were told that March 29 would be the date, over and over and over again.  April 12 then passed us by.  Halloween is a long way off, plenty of time for devious MPs like Yvette Cooper and Oliver Letwin to stop us from leaving again.  Therefore it is imperative that the Brexit Party ball keeps rolling in the meantime.

Peterborough has flip-flopped between the Tories and Labour for decades, no other party has come close.  Make no mistake, a victory in the by-election this Thursday would put the European elections in the shade.  It would not only parachute the Brexit Party into the Commons, it would show that they have some impetus beyond Brussels.

While the longevity of the Brexit Party is linked to a Tory Brexiteer leading us out of the European Union, if he/she fails in October and Labour MPs are seen as the main obstacle then the success story will continue, particularly in the north of England, Midlands and Wales.  Many northern Labour MPs are petrified of the current course that Labour is set on.  They have watched nervously as Labour councillors and MEPs have gone to the sword in the last month, particularly in areas where the MP has done everything they can to stop Brexit from happening.  Lisa Nandy (Wigan), Melanie Onn (Grimsby), Ruth Smeeth (Stoke-on-Trent North), Ian Lavery (Wansbeck) and Stephanie Peacock (Barnsley East) are all resisting moves by what is now seen as a London-centric party towards a second referendum and Remain.  Not surprisingly, they want to keep their seats.

Even the likes of Little Owen, who has done his best fence-sitting impression of the Great Leader where Brexit is concerned, now says that Labour should officially back Remain (or revoke, to use a better word).  This is music to the ears of Nigel Farage.  The more enthusiastically that Labour embraces a hard Remain stance the quicker it will commit suicide in the Brexit heartlands.  If we do not Leave the EU in October and a general election follows, many Labour MPs will come under serious threat from the Brexit Party.  Looking further ahead to elections in 2021 Labour could lose its grip on the Welsh Assembly for the first time ever.  The current administration in Cardiff has already set out a hard Remain strategy, completely at odds with both the 2016 referendum result and also the thumping victory for the Brexit Party last week.  Labour finished third for the first time ever in a Welsh election, a shocking result that was mirrored across England, with the exception of what John Cleese might call the 'not so English' capital.  If the national party decisively sets out a Remain course it will be seen as a London-centric direction and the outrage will be immense.

In some circles it is already being felt.

On the night of the European elections the Labour MP for Wigan was seething about the narrative that was being played out on the BBC, Twitter and within her own party.  Lisa Nandy bemoaned that the Islington result appeared to be the only local result that mattered, that London was the only region that mattered and despairingly tweeted her own local result to point out that the Brexit Party was obliterating Labour in the north.  While all this was going on the BBC had Emily Thornberry on, waffling angrily about Labour not being Remain enough, Thornberry being a member of the north London clique that dominates Labour's front bench.  No wonder Nandy was peeved.

While the Tories have a more simple agenda to achieve their salvation - deliver Brexit - Labour are stuck between the Devil and the deep blue sea.  Corbyn understandably tried to be all things to all people, both Leavers and Remainers, but he failed miserably.  His last ditch attempt to hold back Farage was to use insults that not only didn't wash, but also served to insult traditional Labour voters who backed Leave in 2016.  Corbyn doesn't have any answers, neither does his party.  It is now hopelessly split more so than the Conservatives ever were.

We may yet see that Labour/SNP coalition disaster, but there are now so many more variables bobbing about in the political swamp that it is no longer inevitable.  If the Brexit Party can pull it off in Peterborough on Thursday this will be another hammer blow to Labour and demoralise them even further.  A perfect storm is required for it to happen - a) voter turnout b) massive swing from both Tories and Labour and c) Labour haemorrhaging votes to hard Remain parties.

I started this article by quoting Little Owen.  I'll end by quoting him again to show that Labour really are clueless, desperate and in trouble.

"Another shake-up is surely overdue, too, and that is around the shadow cabinet table.  Corbyn surely needs more big hitters who can refocus the national debate on Labour’s currently marginalised priorities.  The first suggestion is Ed Miliband".
Owen Jones

If Labour's saviour is Ed Miliband, the man who ensured the first Conservative majority in 23 years, then Labour are f...

ADONIS DISMANTLED IN ONE SENTENCE

Crazed remoaner Lord Adonis is still bombarding his Twitter followers with Remain propaganda.  When he comes out with stuff like this though...

There was no major conflict in the Soviet Union after 1945 or the eastern bloc either, but when there was dissent it was crushed with tanks.

CLEESE WAS RIGHT

In our increasingly politically correct world it was no great surprise to see John Cleese attract a lot of condemnation from the establishment for his recent tweet.  The biggest irony is that a lot of the flak he's received has actually done everything to confirm his observation.  The first thing to remember is that Cleese described London as not really an 'English' city any more, he did not say 'British'.  The English are an ethnic group in their own right.  So take some of the highest profile criticisms of Cleese.

Firstly he was mocked by the ethnic Pakistani Mayor of London in this tweet.  Then on Good Morning Britain there was a discussion about Cleese's comments involving six people, five of whom were black and Asian while the sixth was Russian!  How did the producers not see the irony?

You can watch the exchange below, in which two of the participants have already decided that Cleese is a racist old fool, while he is defended by a Russian guy and former England cricketer Monty Panesar.  Let's also remember that white racists, by and large, don't choose to go and live on a Caribbean island inhabited predominantly by black people.  Cleese lives on the isle of Nevis.

Adil Ray, aka sitcom character 'Citizen Khan', seems to think that someone is 'English' merely by residing in London.  The Russian dude seemed to find this absurd as surely most people watching at home did.

If three Asians, two blacks and a Russian didn't convince everyone that Cleese was right, the man himself was on the offensive today...

@VictoriaW1212 again rather proving Cleese's point, not only in that London is less English, but in that it also voted to Remain by a country mile.

One of the trolls retweeted by Cleese actually deleted her Twitter account as she couldn't handle a counter argument.  The irony.

X+Y+Z=REMAIN WON!

Mayhar Tousi provides some excellent analysis of the European election results and the 'fact' Remain won.  Hilarious.

The graph that Mahyar alluded to in his video can be found below.  As you can see, 'Change UK' spent more than £200,000 on Facebook ads in the four weeks prior to the election.  A lot of money for a party that not only failed to win a seat, but did so badly that it polled less votes than the SNP, a party that only stood in one region.  Conversely, the Brexit Party spent less than half that amount and won the election (sorry, remoaners, but they did).  Poor Chuka and co.  Rest in peace 'Change UK'.

BIZARRE TWITTER THREAD

Apparently this Twitter screencap was sent to Little Owen who retweeted it with the despairing caption "I have so many questions".  Indeed.

Secret fruit?

ADONIS CALLS FOR BBC PROSECUTION

It didn't take Lord Adonis long to slip back into his extremist Remain lunacy.  Not content with seeing Boris Johnson in the dock, he wants the BBC there too because they "provided the platform" for Boris.  Unreal.

GALLOWAY BATS FOR BREXIT PARTY

Just as Little Owen is the unofficial mouthpiece of Jeremy Corbyn, a rather surprising backer has emerged on behalf of Nigel Farage.  Left-wing Brexiteer George Galloway announced he was voting for Farage's party "one-time only" in the Euro elections, but since then he has positioned himself as a pro-Brexit Party correspondent.  He is also thought to have sought the Brexit Party nomination for the Peterborough by-election (one week today), having previously considered running as a pro-Leave independent.

In the video below George passionately rallies for Farage and the Brexit Party and goes on to discuss a number of political developments.  Please note he is mistaken in describing Peterborough as the 'most pro-Brexit town' in the country.  Although a 61% Leave-voting constituency this doesn't even place it in the top 100 pro-Brexit constituencies.  Sorry George.

As we've stated before, in order to 'get the job done' and force the politicians to implement the Leave mandate we will have to hold our noses and join forces with those with whom we would not normally associate.  After-all, despite what the Remainers say, the 52% are not all elderly right-wing 'gammon'.

CAMPBELL KNEW THE RULES

As Len McCluskey suggested on Peston last night, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the Machiavellian Alastair Campbell knowingly orchestrated his own demise.  Certainly, if one looks back at an interview he gave to Little Owen two years ago, he was well aware of the rule on voting for a rival party.  In the YouTube video below, we've inserted the crucial 2017 interview segment before playing Campbell's recent garden gate press conference.

Campbell hasn't got a leg to stand on, or has he?  Whether by design or accident his expulsion has instigated an 'I am Spartacus' moment in which other Labour figures have emerged to say they voted for other parties too.  Former Labour Home Secretary Charles Clarke says he voted Lib Dem, while former Labour Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth announced he voted for the Greens.  At the time of writing no action has been taken against them.

Campbell is currently outwitting the Corbyn machine.  Perhaps it's not that difficult.

MICHAEL CAINE'S CORBYN DIG

Sir Michael Caine slipped in a sly dig on the One Show last night.  Speaking about astronomical taxes and why he left the UK, he then discussed how happy he was to have returned to the UK... "until Mr Corbyn gets in".  The hosts laughed nervously and quickly moved on.  We salute you Sir!

CLEESE SENDS TROLLS INTO FRENZY

John Cleese has kept leftie Twitter trolls in business today with the above tweet.  5,000 comments and counting, many of them screaming "wacist" and the like.  If John Cleese is such a racist, why does he now live on a Caribbean island surrounded by black people?  Just saying.

PS. Note that he is followed by remoaner Tom Watson, as you can see bottom left of the frame.  In fact John Cleese has a lot of hard Remain followers including Clive Lewis, Stella Creasy, Peter Kyle, Anna McMorrin and Change UK's Angela Smith.  Bet they loved this tweet, not.

BREXIT BLOCKER BERCOW STAYS PUT

News that John Bercow will stay on as Speaker will not come as much of a shock to anyone.  When he took on the role in 2009 he pledged to stand down by 2018 at the latest, but then came the EU referendum.  Regularly accused of Remain bias, by his own admission today he said that he wouldn't leave the post while "momentous events are taking place".  In other words he wants to stay on so that he can continue to frustrate Brexit for as long as possible.

"I do feel that now is a time in which momentous events are taking place and there are great issues to be resolved and in those circumstances, it doesn't seem to me sensible to vacate the chair".
John Bercow

If there was any doubt about his Remain bias, he gave a speech yesterday in Washington DC where he implied that he would help facilitate the blocking of a no deal Brexit.

Needless to say, some Remainers could not hide their delight to hear that the Brexit-blocking facilitator-in-chief was staying put...

NO COMPARISON

Remoaners furious at Labour's expulsion of Alastair LOSER'S VOTE Campbell have hit back in a trademark hissy fit by calling for Brexiteer Kate Hoey to be expelled too.  On what basis, you may ask?  Did she campaign for a rival party?  No.  Has she indicated she voted for another party?  No.  They are calling for her sacking on the basis that she campaigned with Nigel Farage during the referendum campaign three years ago!

Talk about clutching at straws.  The referendum was not fought on party lines and MPs were free to campaign with whichever campaign group they desired.  Kate Hoey chose Grassroots Out, a group supported by the likes of Tories Peter Bone and Liam Fox, George Galloway and, of course, Nigel Farage (then of UKIP).  She later expressed support for Leave Means Leave, a group set up after the referendum to campaign for the Leave mandate to be implemented.  Again, this was a non-partisan cross-party group, a fact pointed out by Hoey in the following tweet.

Why are Labour remoaners not screaming for the expulsion of Gisela Stuart, the now former MP?  She not only supported Vote Leave - she chaired it.  No, the real reason they want rid of Hoey is because she is the only Labour MP that has voted in favour of Brexit at every single opportunity since 2016.  Ultimately they want her replaced by a Remain candidate, giving themselves yet another Brexit blocking vote in the Commons.

These outlandish and unfounded calls to expel Kate Hoey are just more sour grapes, albeit with a long-term Brexit-blocking purpose in mind.

CAMPBELL SPINS EXPULSION

Alastair Campbell held an impromptu press conference at the end of his garden gate this afternoon.  First words out of his mouth:  "I don't believe I've voted against the Labour Party".  He goes on to claim he is still in the party, regardless of some "random email".  The spin is still strong in this one...

ADONIS PREACHES TO THE NORTH

Despite failing to get elected to his beloved European Parliament, Lord Adonis was back on the remoan trail big time today.  He did a media circuit that included Sky, Bloomberg and LBC, where he faced a rather exasperated Nick Ferrari.  On Sky he was asked about Wigan MP Lisa Nandy's opposition to a second referendum, to which he basically replied that northerners should be bribed into submission and told that the Leave mandate should be ignored (see video below).

Capital-dwelling Remainers like Adonis have still not learned from the mistakes of 2016 and they cannot see that for Labour to lurch towards hard Remain could mark the beginning of the end for Labour not only in the north, but also the Midlands and Wales too.  As Lisa Nandy tweeted despairingly on election night, Britain does not cease to exist beyond the M25.

ALASTAIR CAMPBELL EXPELLED

So, Alastair LOSER'S VOTE Campbell has been expelled from the Labour party.  He had suggested previously that he may not vote Labour at this election in protest at their ambiguous Brexit policy, but on election night he confirmed live on the BBC that he voted for Lib Dems.  He really should have seen it coming...

ANOTHER BURGON CAR CRASH

Frontbench muppet Richard Burgon was wheeled out for another disastrous interview yesterday.  Asked FOUR times by Nicky Campbell about Tom Watson's alleged plotting, Dickie would not answer the question.  All things to all people...

NEW CULT OF CORBYN HASH

Corbynistas are once again fearing for the future of the Great Leader following Labour's latest election humiliation.  Caught between die-hard (mostly southern) Remainers and die-hard (mostly northern) opponents of a second referendum, this could be the straw that breaks Corbyn's back.  His worshippers have initiated the hashtag #CorbynGoesIGo, the implication being that they would abandon the party if the Great Leader departs.

Corbyn's red army are used to getting hashtags trending when the leader is supposedly under threat.  #KeepCorbyn went around when he faced a leadership challenge and #WeAreCorbyn trended last year at the height of the anti-Semitism scandal.  Thankfully, whenever they embark on these social media crusades there are always plenty of right-minded individuals about to rip the piss.  Take this dude Colin.  Colin the Corbynista, no less.  He started a poll with the hashtag #CorbynGoesIGo.  It didn't go the way he envisaged...

FIRST MINISTER IGNORES ANOTHER VOTE

First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford is repeating the same old self-defeating establishment line that "we know best".  By ignoring the 2016 referendum result and by ignoring a huge win for the Brexit Party last night he is potentially shoring up a potential collapse in Welsh Labour similar to that which has seen Scottish Labour plummet from government in 2007 to third place a decade later.

When the assembly is re-elected in 2021 are Welsh voters going to back a party that persistently ignores them?  Not clever stuff from leftie Corbyn-lover Drakeford.

ADONIS LIVES!

You'll be pleased to know that Lord Adonis resurfaced earlier today, thankfully.  We were genuinely worried.  One only has to look at his Twitter wallpaper (see above) to know how much it must have hurt to see "FARAGE & BREXIT" receive 37% of the vote in the South West, and "PEOPLE'S VOTE & LABOUR" get less than 7%.

In Andy's first tweet since his devastating defeat he put a brave face on.  He would later tweet the phrase "Lost the battle, won the war" three times.  What he is actually referring to is beyond comprehension.  His party got smashed.

He then congratulated three of the winning MEPs, only three mind, of course they were the Remain winners from the Lib Dems and Green Party.  Not very gracious in defeat.

After several tweets and retweets he lashed out at Corbyn.

Poor Andy, he really thought he was in with a chance.  Hilarious.

This was the South West England result (elected candidates in bold - 3 Brexit Party, 2 Lib Dems and 1 Green).

CORBYN REACTS

Jeremy Corbyn spoke to the BBC earlier and was clearly as grumpy as ever to be asked awkward questions.  Laughably he claimed that Labour's Brexit policy was "very clear all along".  Yes Jeremy, everyone was so clear about where you stood on Brexit that you lost two million votes, both to Leave and Remain parties, finished third and were completely wiped out in three regions.

LABOUR MPs REACT

Fierce recriminations and infighting have erupted in the Labour party overnight.  There's been lots of finger pointing with various figures saying the party wasn't 'Remain' enough, while others saying the party was too 'Remain' and should oppose a second referendum.  Corbyn himself appeared to suggest a shift towards the second referendum, but this will cause massive problems with some MPs in the northern Brexit heartlands.  Labour have mocked the Tories for years about their EU divide, but now the boot is clearly on the other foot.

The varying reactions of Labour MPs on Twitter...

DEAFENING SILENCE FROM ADONIS...

More than six hours since the declaration for South West England and we are still to hear anything from our favourite Labour loon Lord Adonis.  His Twitter account hasn't been this quiet since 24 June 2016.  He normally tweets up to sixty times a day, at all hours, but absolutely nothing since the declaration.

As number two on the list, he'd been hoping to scoop up a second seat for Labour in the south west, but as it happened Labour were completely wiped out there.  A lot of Labour figures have been quiet thus far, but none so noticeable as Twitter-mad Andy...

Election updates will appear here from 22:00hrs.  Once we are up and running please refresh the page every 2-3 minutes.

The first region to declare is expected to be North East England, as early as 22:15 depending on turnout and an orderly count.  The region is currently represented by two Labour MEPs and one Brexit Party.  If Labour loses one of its seats to the Brexit Party this could suggest a nationwide landslide will follow.

Yorkshire and South West England are likely to be the second and third declarations, any time after 23:00.  The remaining regions will hopefully declare by 03:00, with the exception of Scotland (declaring mid morning on Monday) and Northern Ireland (declaring on Tuesday).
