A STEP TOO FAR FOR LOUDMOUTH COYLE

Labour backbencher Neil Coyle has been suspended from the Parliamentary Labour Party after he let his loud mouth get the better of him once again.  The latest controversy follows an allegation that he made racist remarks in the presence of a mixed race journalist.  Coyle, who represents Bermondsey and Old Southwark, has also been banned from all parliamentary bars following a separate incident in which he is alleged to have screamed obscenities at a Labour staffer and a Tory MP.

Henry Dyer (pictured above right), 24, is of half Chinese descent and reported Coyle to the Speaker following the clash that he says took place at Strangers' Bar in Westminster on Tuesday 1 February.  Dyer was with two other journalists when Coyle approached and began discussing various topics including recent revelations regarding Labour MP Barry Gardiner's involvement with a Chinese spy.  Coyle is initially accused of saying that Gardiner had been paid by 'Fu Manchu', referencing the 20th century Chinese supervillain.  Dyer took umbrage at the remark, pointing out that he was of Chinese descent, to which Coyle is then said to have remarked: "From how you look like, you've been giving renminbi [Chinese currency] to Barry Gardiner".

Coyle is then alleged to have made an obscene two fingered gesture towards Dyer when he left the bar.

Coyle had caused another scene in the same bar the previous evening, having allegedly shouted obscenities at both a Labour staffer and a Tory MP who intervened.  He is reported to have shouted 'F*** you! What are the benefits of Brexit?' at the staffer - Coyle is a staunch Remainer - before telling the unnamed Tory MP to 'F*** off and lose some weight'.  The Southwark News reports that the staffer had suggested that Brexit had 'not been a disaster for the UK'.

The Speaker has now banned Coyle from all bars on the parliamentary estate for six months.  The Labour whip has been suspended pending an investigation into his remarks towards Dyer.

Neil Coyle is renowned for expressing strong opinions and has repeatedly made disparaging remarks about Brexit voters, leading to many deleted tweets and empty apologies.  He is very vocal on Twitter and frequently clashes with his own Labour comrades, particularly those on the hard left.

BURNHAM VS COYLE

Andy Burnham was engaged in a Twitter spat with one of his own party colleagues on Thursday.  The previous night Burnham had tweeted about the price of rail fares in Greater Manchester, calling for a 'levelling up' to 'London-level fares'.

11 minutes later Burnham had to issue a slight correction as he'd got his sums wrong.  It was actually a 15 minute journey.  The following morning he was retweeted by bolshie London MP Neil Coyle who challenged the mayor's comparison.  Coyle doesn't hold back on Twitter, regardless of who he is having a pop at.

Burnham then hit back an hour later.

Burnham is marginally to the left of centrist Coyle, so it's not as if they're on opposite wings of the party.  Infighting is to be expected between the hard left and the centre, but having two moderates going at each other is humiliating.  How Starmer must despair.

Coyle famously nominated Jeremy Corbyn for the 2015 leadership election and then spent four years rueing his decision, getting behind the failed Owen Smith challenge of 2016 and generally bitching about Corbyn.  He has been the MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark since 2015.

It looks like Coyle's vote is not one Burnham can count on in any future leadership contest.

ASHFIELD MP CHALLENGES COYLE

A Tory MP has invited Labour's Neil Coyle to come and explain his recent remarks about Brexiteers to Leave voters in his Midlands constituency.  Lee Anderson wrote to the London MP and dared him to travel north and visit a working man's club in the former coal mining communities of Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.  Here he could meet some ex-Labour voters and discuss how Labour were going to win them back, albeit Anderson seemed fairly confident Coyle would fail - as if the keyboard warrior would ever agree to it in the first place...

In 2016 Ashfield had returned one of the strongest Leave votes in the country with 70 per cent backing Brexit.  At this point it had been a Labour seat since 1979, when the Tories lost the seat following a stunning by-election win two years earlier.  Until 2019 those two years were the only period a Tory had represented the seat in its 64 year history.

The road to victory for the Tories began in 2017 when the huge UKIP vote from 2015 crashed and the Tory vote doubled.  Two years later the sitting Labour MP - Gloria De Piero - knew she was finished and stood down rather than defend her seat.  It was perhaps a wise move as the Labour vote plummeted by more than 9,000 votes in 2019, handing victory to the Tories.  Anderson won Ashfield despite a 1,600 vote decline in the Tory vote.

Labour will find it particularly hard to regain this seat in four year's time, primarily because of Anderson himself.  Lee Anderson is not a typical Tory, in fact just nineteen months prior to the 2019 election he was a Labour councillor.  He was one of two Ashfield Labour councillors to defect to the Tories in March 2018, both of whom cited the influence of the hard left and Momentum as the main factor behind their decision.  It was a bold move to install such a long-standing former Labour activist as their candidate, but the ardent Brexiteer was just the kind of candidate that Boris Johnson needed to get Brexit done.  And unlike so many other MPs who were parachuted into constituencies around the country, Lee is a local lad and he got his hands dirty in the coal mines.

As for Neil Coyle, he deleted his abusive tweets on Thursday and apologised (see below).  Clearly he'd received a phone call from Sir Keir and a reminder that the message was now that Labour was no longer ashamed to be patriotic.  Too little, too late - the cat was already out of the bag.  It's clear that the metropolitan elites who dominate the modern Labour Party - whether that be privately-educated centrists like Coyle or privately-educated leftists like Nadia Whittome - are no different from those who run the Brit-hating BBC.

Coyle's assertion that he is a 'patriot' is laughable and insulting in equal measure, but perhaps it's Lee Anderson who summed him up best earlier this week: "They say a drunk man is a sober man talking.  He must have had a skinful last night".

SO MUCH FOR LABOUR'S NEW-FOUND 'PATRIOTISM'

Labour's Neil Coyle waded into the BBC Proms row on Tuesday night with a couple of late night foul-mouthed tweets.  The outspoken MP didn't hold back as he singled out prominent Leave politicians for criticism.  The first tweet came at 23:32 in response to Nigel Farage who had earlier shared a video of a rendition of Rule, Britannia!

Remainer Neil was clearly triggered and said Farage's tweet was justification for hatred of an anthem that only 'shitlickers liked' anyway.  Coyle will have been equally miffed that Farage's video had been viewed over a million times and had registered more than 30,000 likes.  At the time of writing, Coyle's retweet had registered 162 likes.

It's not clear if Coyle had been on the sauce last night, but just four minutes later he was off again and this time he had Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg in his sights.  Rees-Mogg had earlier tweeted a video in which the PM criticises the Beeb's decision.  Rees-Mogg commented: "Britons must never be enslaved by political correctness".  The combination of two prominent Vote Leave architects had poor Neil spitting feathers.  "Absolute shitbag racist wankers" he ranted, followed by one more tweet at 00:05, before he presumably retired for the night.  Both tweets are still up at the time of writing.

The second tweet doesn't make much sense and perhaps lends credence to the possibility that Neil had over-indulged himself.  Somehow the bitter Remainer had turned a tweet about BBC censorship into a tweet about Brexit.  As for 'fat old racists', at 41 Coyle is no spring chicken himself and there's only ten years between him and Rees-Mogg (who can't accurately be described as 'fat' either).

As a Labour moderate and outspoken critic of Jeremy Corbyn, Coyle's outbursts vastly undermine his current leader's position.  Keir Starmer declared earlier this year that his party should be 'proud to be patriotic' and in recent months he has delivered a marked change in tone from the overtly anti-British regime of Corbyn.  However, with messages like those above it's clear that Starmer is merely a front for a party that it is really just more of the same.

Coyle was one of the few Labour MPs to increase his majority at the general election.  Representing the 74 per cent Remain constituency of Bermondsey and Old Southwark, he increased his majority from 12,972 to 16,126, albeit largely at the expense of a collapse in support for the second-placed Lib Dems.  With London also the location of the only Labour gain in that election there is no doubt whatsoever that the capital is now the beating heart of Labour.

WHEN POLLS BACKFIRE

When Labour MP Neil Coyle tweeted last week that history would judge Corbyn as "Labour's worst ever leader" it was always going to trigger the loony left.  Step forward 'Colin', a man reportedly from the Labour heartland of London and who calls himself a supporter of Jeremy who does not support centrists.  He thought a Twitter poll would prove Neil Coyle wrong (because obviously the world revolves around Twitter).  It didn't quite go according to plan...

Some of the stuff that Colin posts is so bizarre that this may actually be a carefully crafted parody account.  Note the Russian flag in his profile name, such a cliché.  On the other hand, they're not called the loony left for nothing.

FOR THE EGO, NOT THE MANY

It was Jeremy Corbyn's final appearance at Prime Minister's Questions today, although many will be wondering why he was there at all.  Corbyn was once again defying public health advice for the over 70s to go home and self-isolate for 12 weeks.  During his allotted six questions he raised the issue of a covid-infected construction worker who had been forced to work and in doing so is spreading the virus.  The irony appeared to be lost on him.  Corbyn is under no obligation to attend the House of Commons.  He's not going to lose his salary.  Others have stood in for him at PMQs previously, so why not now?  The answer is obvious.  It's not about you, the many - it's all about Jeremy Corbyn.

It's the same reason why he insisted on travelling to a TV studio on Sunday for a live interview with Sophy Ridge, instead of doing it via a satellite link from home.  His determination to flout advice and continue to appear in public is driven in part by his pending departure from the Labour leadership.  In less than two weeks he will no longer be Her Majesty's Leader of the Opposition and the thought of it is eating him up inside.  He has spent the last five years having his ego massaged by a loyal army of admirers.  He easily won two leadership elections (but not any other election, mind) and it has all built up this aura of self-importance.  We saw it on election night after Labour's humiliation became clear.  He couldn't say the word 'resignation', instead he could only say that he 'would not lead Labour into the next election'.  He couldn't let go.  He couldn't admit defeat.  In an unprecedented move he then refused to stand down until his successor had been chosen.  It's now 15 weeks since the election and he's still in place.

While Corbyn is still adored by his Momentum footsoldiers and hard left MPs like Abbott and Burgon, he is not universally popular in the Parliamentary Labour Party and never has been.  He was crushed by his own MPs in the 2016 vote of no confidence in his leadership.  Just 40 MPs supported him, with the other 172 overwhelmingly supporting Owen Smith in the ensuing leadership election.  One of them was the MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark.  Neil Coyle has been a consistent critic of Corbyn and he took one last opportunity to snipe at his leader while Corbyn was at the despatch box today.

Contrast Coyle's assessment of Corbyn with that of Ian Lavery, the party chairman and Corbyn loyalist.

While Corbyn suffered a humiliating defeat in the no confidence vote of 2016, things are different now.  Many of those troublesome moderates have been forced out and replaced by hard left clones.  The split is more even now and that spells huge trouble for Keir Starmer if/when he wins the leadership election a week on Saturday.  Half the PLP will insist he maintains the hard left ideology of the Corbyn era, while the other half will insist he drags the party back to the centre where he himself is more at home.  There's going to be trouble ahead for sure.

MORGAN TAKES DOWN DAFT DAVE

Piers Morgan has been embroiled in a second Twitter row involving a Labour MP.  Last week he was told by Bermondsey MP Neil Coyle to "go f*** yourself", ironically in the same week Labour MPs were creating hysteria over language used by Boris Johnson.  Morgan has continued the spat this morning by telling Coyle:  "You're a disgrace to your constituents and to Parliament".

Yesterday Morgan took on daft Dave Lammy, again in a row linked to Labour's hypocrisy over 'dangerous language'.

Lammy then took the dispute down a bizarrely surreal avenue of pastry products.  Note that Dave uses the waving hand emoji at the end of his tweet, indicating that this was a 'dropped mike' tweet aimed at closing the argument.  Morgan struck back in fashion and it was Dave who was silenced.

Morgan kept up his attack this morning and eventually he obtained the rarest of responses from a politician - an admission that they were wrong.  That this was Dave Lammy is an astonishing feat.

Although he has now deleted the tweet, we can reveal that it was a video of Boris Johnson being pelted with missiles to which Lammy commented:  "Boris Johnson as popular as ever".  The tweet and video can be seen here.  Eagle-eyed Morgan noted that the video was not from the current Tory conference, as clearly inferred, but from 2015.  It was also a further display of rampant hypocrisy at a time when Labour are attacking the government over 'dangerous language'.

BREXIT-BLOCKING LEGAL ACTIONS

A second legal action aimed at preventing a no deal Brexit has been launched.  Remain campaigner Gina Miller has already served a legal notice on Boris Johnson that she be informed of any plan to suspend Parliament with seven days notice (so that she can challenge the decision in court).  Yes, she holds herself in such high regard.  Despite everything Gina is still bizarrely claiming that she is not trying to stop Brexit.  As Niall Paterson recently observed in a Sky interview with her:  "There will be people watching this going 'Who do you think you are?'"  Miller replied (with a straight face):  "Each of us in a democracy as a citizen has the right to exercise our legitimate questions of the courts".  Well Gina, there were 17.4million citizens of this democracy who exercised their rights in 2016 and you are clearly trying to frustrate and deny their legitimate mandate.

The latest attempt to stop Boris Johnson proroguing Parliament involves a group of cross-party MPs and peers seeking a ruling from the Court of Session in Edinburgh.  Their aim is to declare such a move 'unlawful'.  Politicians named in the legal action are mostly Labour, with a spattering of SNP, Plaid, Lib Dems, Green and a couple of former Change UK cranks (see list below).

#RESIGNFORCHRIS

Yes, this is actually trending on Twitter right now.  It appears that some mischief makers have taken advantage of Chris Williamson's plea for help in fighting for his Labour membership.  The suspended MP claims that he is being lined up for expulsion and says "legal action against the party machine is underway".  The obligatory crowdfunder is "coming soon".  Isn't it just amazing how quickly wealthy socialists start begging for other people's money when there is a lost cause to fight?

Chris's plea for solidarity has led to so much ridicule that the hashtag #ResignForChris is now trending.  One of the first to mock him was one of his own Parliamentary colleagues, Labour MP Neil Coyle.  Coyle suggested that Williamson should "get in the sea" after which a spat began (see below).

The handbags at dawn ended with Coyle blocking Williamson's account.  Williamson screencapped Coyle's block calling it "tragic".  Is that so Chris?  You were one of the first MPs to block our Twitter account.  Now that's tragic sunshine.

Another Labour MP also joined in the condemnation of Chris the Shit.  Rachel Reeves tweeted her disgust and said that he was "no colleague of mine".  It seems that poor Chris is about as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit on the Common's benches, but alas he is getting plenty of support from outside the Parliamentary party.  The Jew-baiting hard left just adore him and he is getting vocal support from commie media outlets such as Novara Media and the Canary, plus a handful of celebrities including film director Ken Loach.

However, support for Williamson has been somewhat undermined and overshadowed by the hilarious hashtag.  It's not difficult to spot the mischief that's been carried out.  The same picture of a cut up Labour membership card has been tweeted countless times by different people all claiming to have genuinely resigned in disgust.  There will almost certainly be some Labour activists and members who'll have fallen for it, but most have cottoned on quickly and are trying desperately to rumble the plotters and disrupt their antics by getting #JoinForChris trending.  Here's a quick selection featuring the #ResignForChris hashtag...

THE LABOUR 90

If Jeremy Corbyn thought Chris Williamson's return to the party was going to escape unnoticed, he was sorely mistaken.  What began as angry tweets on Wednesday escalated to media interviews and a 90-strong letter of protest yesterday.  Rather unsurprisingly the first name on the letter is one Tom Watson, followed by 89 Labour MPs and peers.

Labour MPs were queuing up for media interviews to condemn Williamson's re-admittance in the strongest terms possible.  Louise Ellman told Channel 4 that "A party that does not deal with hatred and prejudices towards Jewish people is not fit to govern".  Neil Coyle lashed out at one of the members of the disciplinary panel that overturned Williamson's submission, namely Keith Vaz.  Speaking to Sky, Coyle referred to Vaz as 'Jim', referencing the rent-boy scandal in which Vaz called himself 'Jim - the washing machine salesman'.  Meanwhile, Vaz cried foul and said he was set up, having to attend the disciplinary hearing whilst in the middle of 'medical treatment'.  Of course, Jim.

Williamson himself has so far maintained a silence on the furore, except to thank the "avalanche of goodwill messages from grassroots members".  He'll need warm thoughts of the proletariat when he is next greeted by the cold shoulder by the Parliamentary Labour Party.
