As Len McCluskey suggested on Peston last night, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the Machiavellian Alastair Campbell knowingly orchestrated his own demise.  Certainly, if one looks back at an interview he gave to Little Owen two years ago, he was well aware of the rule on voting for a rival party.  In the YouTube video below, we've inserted the crucial 2017 interview segment before playing Campbell's recent garden gate press conference.

Campbell hasn't got a leg to stand on, or has he?  Whether by design or accident his expulsion has instigated an 'I am Spartacus' moment in which other Labour figures have emerged to say they voted for other parties too.  Former Labour Home Secretary Charles Clarke says he voted Lib Dem, while former Labour Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth announced he voted for the Greens.  At the time of writing no action has been taken against them.

Campbell is currently outwitting the Corbyn machine.  Perhaps it's not that difficult.
