COUNCIL BY-ELECTIONS 21.08.25

An impressive nine seats were up for grabs in eight by-elections on Thursday, with two Labour defences among them.  The Tories were defending four, while the Lib Dems and Reform were defending one apiece.  The remaining seat was an independent.  The Reform vacancy was the result of yet another resignation from those elected in May.

The loss of both seats they were defending on Surrey County Council, means the Conservatives have lost control of the council for the first time since 1997, which slips into no overall control.
